What to Destash + Books

So in my first post I posed three packing questions: “What to take?”, “What to destash?”, and “What to leave?”

I answered the first one and the last one, but didn’t cover destashing!

Why not? Frankly, in the end I didn’t have much to destash. Either I am:
A) Incredibly good at only buying things I’ll still want later
B) Delusional about how much I want everything I have
or
C) Pretty good at destashing as I go.

The truth probably lies in the middle somewhere, but in the end I only had a few skeins of yarn and a little fiber to destash. I found a few fiber friends who took most of it.

The other thing I forgot was books. I have a nice little collection of fiber themed books which range from standard pattern books through fun reads about other peoples’ crafting adventures to academic studies. What to take?

This did require some thought, because books are HEAVY so I couldn’t bring them all. I tried to get a sample of each type. I brought only pattern books with patterns on my short term “make” list. Then I brought a couple that covered techniques (including Couture Sewing Techniques – if I’m going to be sewing by hand, might as well do it right!).

Anything I could get digitally, I left behind. This included (sadly) my Ply Magazines, but I invested in the digital copies. AwesomeE will be stockpiling the new ones for me while I’m gone.

And finally, I brought some of the my history/anthropology books. They had to provide either awesome photos/images or be fairly approachable to reread or both. Soo…. Prehistoric Textiles, the heavy green tome of serious science language stayed home… Instead I brought Women’s Work, The Mummies of Urumchi (if you want amazing images of ancient textiles, this one is fantastic!) and Faces of Tradition: Weaving Elders of the Andes.
