First, I am absolutely loving the socks I’m working on for myself. These are the ones I started on the way back from Utrecht on the train in Hedgehog Fibres hurricane colorway. I need some darker colored socks and these will be gorgeous. If I have any regrets, it’s only getting one skein of their yarn.
The McCulloch Socks cable pattern is really coming out well against the varigated background. You can see in the image above how different the colors are based on the lighting. The left hand image is in front of the window, so it’s all natural light and the blues stand out. The right hand image is under the LED light of the floor lamp by our couch. The reds and yellows are far stronger. In either light though, the yarn has a nice glow.
These are my 23rd pair of socks, and my first with an afterthought heel. I’m apparently quite the creature of habit and typically use heel flaps. I did one pair with a stair step heel, and wasn’t a fan. So we’ll see how I like the afterthought heel…
Speaking of socks, here’s a photo of the washed and blocked socks I finished in Utrecht:
They are the Latvian Socks pattern by Nancy Bush in Unplanned Peacock sock yarn, colorway Clematis. Luckily for the intended recipient, her feet are smaller than mine so there is no way my husband can try to claim them for his own. He was admiring them greatly as they blocked.
Luckily for TheEnabler, it doesn’t take much to get me to agree to make him another pair of socks. So we spent a bit of time on Sunday perusing the Unplanned Peacock colorways and picking out yarn. You’ll have to wait until later this summer when I collect it while I’m back in the states to see what we got though!
