Finished!

Last night I finished my Zinone top. I’ve been pretty eager to wear it, so I actually immediately wove in my ends and blocked it instead of pretending cast off = done for a bit.

Zinone done

Apologies for the poor picture, but TheEnabler has been swamped with work this weekend so I didn’t want to bug him to take my pic for me. Hopefully, it’s evident that it fits well. I’ve been wearing it today and I’m really happy with it. The bright color is particularly welcome with today’s weather which is best summed up as “grey”.

My top completed last night I could have worked more on my hat, started one of the three pairs of socks I have planned, or any of the other projects in my Ravelry queue.

Did I? No. Instead, I decided (I am not sure why) that I needed to figure out how to cast on a mobius cowl/scarf that’s knit in one piece without grafting two ends together. I pulled out the remaining half of a lace weight skein of yarn (Unplanned Peacock merino and silk), a really long circular (I was pretty sure this was the way to go) and cast on.

Beginnings of a mobius

I am pleased as punch to state that I figured out how to do it. In case you too would like to tackle this challenge, I won’t spoil it. But you can probably see from the picture that I’m working from the middle outwards and that the cable of my needle is tracing the full length of the one edge of the mobius.

I am fully aware that I am not the first to figure out a way to do this – the many patterns on Ravelry show that others have achieved this before me (Cat Bordhi in paricular I know is known for her mobius designs). However, I think it’s entirely valid to take joy and satisfaction on solving a puzzle yourself, even if you are not the first to do so. It’s also entirely valid to look up somebody elses’ solution if you don’t have the time, energy, resources, or desire to tackle that particular puzzle yourself.

And to show that I haven’t forgotten I have other things to work on, I wound a couple skeins of sock yarn this morning:

The one on the left is Ancient Arts Fibres Crafts “Reinvent” for me and the one on the right is Unplanned Peacock Sock for TheEnabler.

Then I promptly “forgot” they were in my bag when I headed downtown to meet up with another knitting group this afternoon. It’s ok though. I have a suspicion that now that the mobious is figured out and basically rows of garter, I’ll get bored soon.

Note: Yesterday and today demonstrated the downside to stubbornly holding out against using the heat. Every establishment TheEnabler and I have walked into feels beastly hot. We decided to lunch outside yesterday and had to go find the server because she didn’t think anybody would be sitting outside.
