On Saturday I completed an act of bravery – I ordered yarn online, from a German site, and didn’t use Google Chrome’s translation services. Nope, not a word. Found my yarn, the right colorways, check out and everything. Even figured out the shipping and returns policies to a sufficient degree that I was comfortable.
If you have never navigated a website in another language, I urge you to try it. Even fluent in French, websites took me a bit to feel comfortable with when I lived in France because so many things on a website are single words with little context. Luckily, ordering yarn is significantly less nerve wracking than plane tickets. If I mess up, well, I might get a surprise fluffy instead of the one I was going for.
What prompted my act of bravery? I needed another ball of Tutti to finish TheEnabler’s scarf and the yarn stores in town didn’t have it. While I was at it, I decided to get two balls in another colorway for myself since I was seriously considering stealing the scarf, and while this will be his second fluffy mohair scarf, I don’t have any.
Today, my yarn arrived:
Along with a surprise knitting booklet! I’m pretty sure its 40 patterns focusing on socks for a wide variety of folks. So I have my first German pattern book.
I also believe the universe has rewarded my daring-do because look:
Matching lots! I assumed I would get a different lot and would just live with it because, well, multi-colored fuzzy scarf makes it easier to hide a transition.
This is his scarf so far:
I’m excited to see how the colors in mine turn out.
