Not quite a pair

As you know, I’ve been working on my own pattern for a pair of leg warmers, as well as a pair of socks from the pattern Francie.

Earlier this week, I did a really dangerous thing. I finished the first leg warmer and first sock on the same day.

Why was this dangerous? Well, I feel like if I’ve ever set myself up to catch second sock syndrome, it’s finishing two different firsts of a pair at the same time. Which one do I cast on next? How do I make sure I don’t lose momentum on either one?

Luckily, I realized the danger and I set the goal to have both cast on within 24hrs of finishing the first of the pair. So, since I finished the sock in the morning, I cast that on the following morning. I allowed myself to work on it until dinnertime, at which time I cast on the leg warmer, since that was completed the night before.

Voila – both mates are started:

I am happy to report that both fit well, though man the sock looks funky when not on a foot. You wouldn’t think to look at this picture that the leg warmer and sock are both for the same person.

The great thing about knitting the second one? There aren’t any more decisions to make. I just need to do the same thing again, and I know it’ll fit.
