If slowly…
Kitten continues to slow knitting progress. I’ve been able to get some knitting done while on work calls if she’s sleeping elsewhere.
And, big accomplishment, I can sneak out my knitting if she’s sufficiently zonked out in my lap or next to me. Proof:
However, it’s still a really good idea to stick to my smaller simpler projects that can be put down as soon as she wakes up. It’s not just the string she’s interested in – she wants to chew on the needles. Thus, knitting is also carefully packed away when not being worked on. THIS is why having lots of project bags is important.
One project is finally off the needles and blocked: my mohair alpaca scarf! I’m still totally in love with the colorway and can’t wait to wear it today. It’s BIG – 18in by 76in, which is what I wanted.
Somewhere about midway, I dropped a stitch. One of things about mohair – stitches don’t unravel. This makes it easy to “save” a dropped stitch, but also means you can miss that you dropped a stitch. I didn’t notice until I went to do the final edge in seed stitch and realized my count was off.
That’s right – after finising the other half of the scarf. Now, one little stitch isn’t going to change the size greatly. And not only do I not like the thought of frogging half a scarf, but frogging that much mohair – ugh. Instead, I took about 20in of the same color section as the dropped stitch and did a duplicate stitch over it to catch it into the scarf, preventing any future unravels and holes.
I blocked it Wednesday night into yesterday. When I blocked my husband’s, I started in the morning so I laid it out on the bed. Since I was planning to sleep soon, I just hung this over the towel rack for the night, and figured I’d let it finish drying on the bed the next day. This had no impact on the final results.
BUT, it did reveal, in the confines of the warm humid bathroom, that the combo of wet mohair and alpaca has a special smell. I rather like wet wool, but this particular combination is, well, less nice. Like, I went into the bathroom and was momentarily worried our new kitten had had an accident before I realized it was the scarf. Thanksfully, now it’s dry, it’s back to a generally woolly smell.
Since all dangly ends have been removed, kitten declared it mostly boring. I disagree, but then I can see colors.
