Feeling Clever

I finished the first sock in the pair I am making for my husband over the weekend. He needs some new basic socks as the first pair I made him back in 2014 are looking a bit worn. Given the miles and miles he has walked in them, I am not disappointed in how well they have worn. But they will soon need replacing.

So I set out to make some simple socks in sturdy sock wool yarn. I am really pleased with the result.

Francie pattern adapted sock 1

I adapted the Francie pattern to push the diagonal rib closer to the heel, effectively creating arch support. I basically did the diagonal rib in which you add stitches at the bottom while taking away further up at the same time as the gusset decreases, making a much more severe line up the arch. You can really feel it when you put them on, and I think I may incorporate this into my basic sock pattern going forward. The leg is a simple and easy to adjust to size 2×2 rib.

Combine it with a pretty yarn, and you have a pretty cool sock.

If they look a bit big here, its because I am modeling them on my rather smaller foot.
