I received an amazing surprise in the mail: yarn! And really special yarn at that. My cousin was able to attend the annual carding and spinning event on a Navajo Reservation in New Mexico. First, I am extremely jealous as it sounds like she had an amazing time and the opportunity to interact and learn from some amazing women. She learned a bit about shearing, carding and spinning. And, she picked up a bit of hand spun Navajo Churro wool spun by one of the older women in a natural brown there which she sent to me all the way in Germany:
I haven’t measured how much I have just yet, but I estimate around 50ft/16yds or so. It’s tightly spun and fulled single and the thickness is around 15wpi. It’s dense and springy and clearly pretty strong. It’s absolutely gorgeous.
It was a totaly unexpected and wonderful little gift to receive.
Churros are pretty. 🙂
