I’m totally running behind on my blog posts. So prepare for a bit of catch up over the next few.
First, my knitting from the past week or so:
I’ve made a nice bit of progress on my Melaine cardigan. This has been aided by temperatures cool enough in Germany (down to mid 50s F/13-14C) at night to require a light jacket or sweater. This means both that it’s cool enough to knit on a sweater and that getting the sweater done seems really desirable, all the more so because I have a limited number of light sweaters.
That said, on Tuesday we boarded a train to Amsterdam. I decided a sweater this far along was a bit bulkier than I wanted, especially since I would be going into our office in Amsterdam and a purse sized project is better fit when I will already be carrying around a laptop and other office paraphenalia. So I left it home.
Instead, my socks boarded the train with me:
I’m past the heel flap and well into the foot of the first one. And since I don’t have very long feet, it shouldn’t be too much longer until I’m on sock number two. Unfortunately, because I want to do the same ribbing trick for arch support as on the latest socks for TheEnabler, the foot requires a bit more concentration with regards to the gusset decreases and increases from the bottom of the foot.
I also had to rip back my first go at the heel flap when I finished turning the heel and realized I forgot to rearrange the stitches beforehand so that the top of the foot would be centered on the rib: it started with 2k and ended with 2p, which messes up the rest of the rib. One more reason I’m happy to be safely a few rows into the foot and it’s clear my stitch pattern is centered properly.
So that’s the quick knitting update. Tomorrow I hope to get you a post on what I’ve been up to during Tour de Fleece.
