Not actually forgotten

I spent some time winding yarn over the weekend so that I could start my Fireworks Festival shawl, and since then I have been admiring the pretty cakes of blue, orange and pink. I also keep forgetting to take pictures in daylight.

However, I have not cast on yet, largely because it’s going to be pretty complicated and I have been too tired to tackle it when I had knitting time.

Instead, I picked up the Twisted Lines top after more than a month’s hiatus:

The front of a sweater on a long dpn in light blue and purple yarn with XO cables up the center. Set against a grey wool blanket.

And voila, just a few days later I have another 4in knit and can say I am half way done the front. I am even past the short rows I decided to add to the front. So if I ignore the collar and finishing*, I am 75% done! I didn’t even forget how to use the knitting belt.

Gaps like this one in knitting are why I spend the time up front plotting out all the likely adjustments to stitch count, increase and decrease rates, etc… to better fit my body shape and writing them down. I didn’t need to figure out what I was doing as long as I knew where I was in the pattern because my notes were all there already next to each step of the pattern. The hour I spent doing that at the beginning probably saved me more than that over the course of the project as I have taken breaks from it.

*It is easy to ignore these on any knitting project right up until they cannot be ingored any longer.
