Fireworks all the Time

I love fireworks. Normally I’m not one for loud bangs, or smokey smells, but I enjoy a good fireworks show, especially on a long summer night when the day is finally cooling off. One of the best parts of our wedding was a huge bonfire and fireworks during the evening after party.

So, I think my love of the brioche shawl I’m working on isn’t just about the fantastic colors, or that I enjoy knitting in brioche. It’s also about the concept of the shawl, and I think as so many summer events are being cancelled, knowing I have my own little fireworks shawl is a pleasant thought. I’ve been beavering away at it and I’m close to 2/3rds of the way through the final chart, which frankly slightly astonishes me*. I am totally in love with how my little fireworks bursts are coming out in their pink and orange:

Most of a brioche shawl still on the needles is draped over a wood porch chair in front of a fluffy white and black cat sitting on the chair. Shawl is in blue with orange and pink as the contrast color. Syncopated stitches create “fireworks” in pink and orange.

I took this photo outside on the back porch in the evening light, where I think the deep colors of the singles glow even more. My kitty’s fur has a bit of a glow too!

If you are wondering, I did not sit the chair on the table for my photo shoot. It’s always there so the cat can sit up there and get a better view of the neighborhood from the porch. It reduces somewhat how often she comes and gets me to hold her on the porch so she can see more. It does not eliminate this behavior. But she does look awfully majestic perched up there!

P.S. Pattern Giveaway is still open.

*astonished in part because I had to rip out a row and a half, which is not a quick endeavor in brioche, especially on the long edge of a wide shawl.

  1. I love how this is coming along! Those are the best colors! Objectively, of course. 🙂
