Casting on for a New Pattern

Over the weekend I was finally able to cast on for the cowl I’m working on!

My hand is holding circular needles with the first few stitches of a cast on. I am wearing an aqua Makers Keeper with 11 stitch markers in various colors. On the desk is a swatch in white and blue yarn which I’m unraveling to use in the cast on. Various crafting notions are in the background on the desk as well.

As part of my continuous reporting on “is my new toy useful”? I can say it was useful here during the cast on. I needed to cast on 264 stitches, or 24 x 11. I pulled out 11 little stitch markers, stuck them to the magnet, and started casting on, placing a stitch marker after every 24 stitches. When I got to the last marker I was done. Now, pre-counting my stitch markers and using them to keep track of my cast-on stitches isn’t new. What was new was not freaking out every time the cat jumped on the desk while I was working. My stitch markers were safely stuck to the little magnet. Once my cast on was complete, I took off and set aside the Maker’s Keep.

Here’s what it looks like so far:

A cowl in blue and teal green is being knit in the round. It’s sitting on top of a small zippered project bag showing the ball of Gradient yarn in which the teal is shifting to purple and pink next to a cake of white yarn.

The color changes are long enough that you can see a few rows of it before it shifts to the next one. I’ve started the mini brioche section, so the white yarn has been added in as well.

It’s slightly slower going because I have to check each new step against the instructions I wrote up and correct/clarify anywhere that it’s not quite right. I’ll keep you all up to date as it progress, so if you like the looks of it you can look forward to making the pattern yourself.
