Color and Balance

Or… I can’t resist making changes

It’s been a busy week, hence the gap in posts. In what time I’ve had to knit, I’ve been working on some modifications to the Arequita Tunic. I a) realized I wouldn’t have enough dusty rose yarn and b) the lace panels looked a little stark against it.

So I’ve pulled back the back panel and reknit it with slanted side panels in the darker purple/grey yarn:

Part of a tunic being knit with dusty pink yarn and contrast lace panel and side panels in a purple grey.

I think it’s going to look much more interesting. I’ve got a complex color coding of the side stitch markers to help keep track of everything I’m doing:

  • orange – aligns with something on the other panel
  • purple is for starting & ending a decrease area
  • yellow marks where I changed the rate of increasing the purple yarn
  • green (not on this panel) is for starting & ending increase areas

And the stitch markers across the row also mark various things.

  • The green marked what I was aiming for in the dark purple
  • Blue are the increase/decrease points
  • Pink was the increase/decrease goal

I’ve carefully measured out the purple yarn into four equals balls: two for the front, and two for the back.
