Just dropping by the blog to show you my current spinning:
I’ve started on the top half of the Fall Rose Petals batt by Barn2Yarn – the side that was visible when the batt was rolled up. I’m loving it as much as the other half, though to my mind they have really different characters.
I also want to say a word about color, cameras, and how our eyes see things. I’m frankly rather annoyed with the image above. It does not LOOK like what I saw, not really. My spindle and it’s deep vibrant colors looked amazing against the teal sheet on our bed this morning when I was spinning* but I just can’t quite capture it with my camera – and my camera gets colors pretty well. What my phone & iPad cameras captured isn’t even worth talking about. I might have been able to do better with my real camera, but it turns out I have limited attention span for photography pre-breakfast and coffee**.
It’s tough with that level of contrast and because the silk in the fibers gives a shine to it that makes it pop up as more exposed/brighter in the pictures than my naked eye sees. The reds should be more a deep pink, the yellow softer. What you see above is an image that I also ran through my photo software to adjust the color balance a bit and get closer to what I saw, but it’s not quite there.
*what? You don’t sleep with a spindle nearby so you can do some spinning in the morning? Not saying I do it often… but I like knowing it’s there when I want it.
**and it turns out I’m not very good at getting the focus right when my eyes aren’t fully focusing yet either.
