Two down, two to go

Earlier this week I finished spinning the second Barn2Yarn art batt, Fall Rose Petals. I can see the rose petals in top half of the batt, with its pinks, reds, and yellows in particular – all of them scattered on the ground with just a hint of brown as they start to die off.

On the left are two “turtles” from a cross arm spindle, one of pink/yellow and the other purple/red/white. On the right is the same yarn, now in hanks, alongside a bright yellow and white hank of yarn.

You can see both of the skeins I spun up on the left there. They really look like siblings to me – both different and related at the same time. They also make a lovely progression with the yellow I spun up earlier. This means I’ve finished two of the four art batts I bought at the beginning of the year:

Four art batts from Barn2Yarn left to right: a brown batt with bits of golden yellow and angelina, a yellow batt with some white, an orange batt with some black, purple, and almost red orange, and lastly a pink/purple batt

As you can see, I originally envisioned that the Fall Rose Petals (far right) would need another batt to transition over to the Beach Sunset (yellow) batt, but now I’m not so sure.

So as not to run through all the brightest colors first, I decided to tackle the brown Chocolate Sensations next…

I opened it up and did a little examining of the layers that make it up before decided I’d proceed with spinning it all as one large hank. Here’s what I have so far:

Cross arm spindle with dark brown, red brown and white mix of wool fiber from a batt.

I’ll be honest, this one doesn’t make me think of chocolate so much as all the varieties of little brown finches that show up at bird feeders. I’ll be curious to see if it still fits into the mix or not once I’ve finished all of them.
