Rainy days and Log Fires

It’s a gray and rainy day today. It started with a light drizzle last night – so light I wouldn’t have realized it was raining outside but for the damp cats and wet paw prints across the floor. The Norwegian Forest cat comes with a built-in “rain coat” so they unfazed by a light rain, but their fluffy paw pads (better for cold northern winters) absorb rain and result in wet paw tracks across the apartment.

Overnight, it increased to a steady rain, and today it’s settled back into a mist. It’s the sort of day where a hot breakfast, tea in the afternoon, and a fire all sound great. Sadly, while we can make the first two happen, we don’t have a fire place.

Instead, I pulled out the only “log fire” I have, my last unspun Barn2Yarn batt:

Unrolled batt of wool and mixed fiber in oranges, reds, browns and a bit of yellow from Barn2Yarn. Colorway “Log Fire”

As with the others, I’ve captured the “reveal” as I unrolled it. Honestly, this one had no surprises to reveal.

Progression clockwise from upper left of the Barn2Yarn Log Fire batt being unrolled. Batt is oranges, reds, and browns with bits of yellow and purple.

As you can see, the vivid orange with the streaks of reds and yellows continues. Not shockingly, there is a base of brown for the “logs” in the log fire on the back. I’ll spin this one in strips from the whole batt mostly as-is. I’ve pulled apart and scattered some of the locks sitting on top a bit more evenly across.

So it looks like in the end, the Fall Rose Petals colorway is the only one I’ll have split into layers.
