I’ve been working more on my needle felt of the stream view. I started building up the first layer of colors yesterday, working around the edges first. It doesn’t have a traditional back-middle-foreground to work towards, and working from the edges seemed a good way to start blocking out color areas:
And then today I pulled it out again to work on it. I’m pleased with myself for working on it two days in a row. It looks crazy bright right now, but I’m trying to tease out the base color first, and then I’ll start working up the more subtle colors in thicker layers. Maybe it’s just because I’m working from an acrylic painting, but so far this felt piece feels the most like the acrylic painting I did in high school, working in a more free form and less precise fashion, with splashes of bright pure color being layered bit by bit on top of each other. I don’t even know how much of these first layers will be visible by the end. Felting is also getting faster as the wool gets thicker on top of the base cotton fabric layer.
I did have to work pretty hard to get that picture above though. At about a meter wide, I have to lay it out on the floor to take pictures. And Pippin LOVES it…
I had to remove him, purring furiously, several times before I could snap my photo kitten-free. I also have to watch the project bag in case the little thief steals fiber out of it. It gets bundled up and tucked away in the closet when I’m not working on it.
