Clearly not an allergy sufferer

I’ve been doing a little more spinning again, with a lovely Devonia blend called “Pollen Gold” from John Arbon Textiles:

A partially disassembled cross-arm spindle with a turtle of deep gold yarn, with some of the unspun fiber nearby, both sitting on a John Arbon Textiles bag on a desk.

I now have two 25gr turtles spun, with two more to go. I feel like I’ve finally got a good sense of both the fiber and the spindle, and I’m speeding through these compared to when I spun the Ocean Rain back in 2019.

Teal hand-spun yarn is lightly twisted into a round spiral in the left hand image, and the right top and bottom are the same yarn loosely piled.

I think they will go nicely together once I’m done. But I must say, of the two, Ocean Rain sounds far more pleasant than Pollen Gold as a name. Especially as somebody with regular allergies, and who has lived through the yearly (and traumatic) pine pollen snow of North Carolina.

Yarn Support & BIPOC Artist Grant

Adornment + Theory, an independent jewelry store in Chicago (one I’ve never personally shopped at) is offering two $500 artist grants to BIPOC artists as seed grants. Applications are due by February 28, 2021. “Qualifications: Must be 21+, Must identify as BIPOC, This grant must be used for materials or professional development courses. Deadline to apply is Sunday, February 28th”. Funding for materials and professional development can make a big difference to emerging artists, so I encourage you to a) apply if this is a you or b) share if you know anybody who would be a good fit.

If you’re looking to support emerging designers who could use a little help, Little Skein in the Big Wool has a Community Yarn Fund, to which you can donate.
