Rebound Projects

After two weeks of project monogamy, the rebound has hit me hard. It’s not so much startitis (though I did start one new project) as bouncing between various things I had going already.

I worked away at my Pollen Gold fiber, finishing up the last of the singles and getting half of it plied up over the weekend:

And for all that I want to spin away on my new bog wood spindle (and I have!), I also found I suddenly has a renewed interest in the Charollais I started sometime back. I’d forgotten how this fiber practically sucks up the twist. This makes it easy to spin pretty thin (going for a 3ply with this for socks), and it lets the spindle keep spinning quickly for longer. A significant factor in a fast spinning spindle slowing down is the push back from the yarn itself trying to untwist against the spindle. The closer you get to maxing out the twist the fiber can take, the greater this counterforce. So, with fiber that just soaks it all up – my spindle just keeps going! I’ve finished up a 2nd cop of this over the weekend. Once more, and I can work on plying the first 50gr.

And it wasn’t all spinning. I also did some knitting. I cast on another pair of socks with some Crazy Zauberball for TheEnabler. If you aren’t a stickler for perfectly matching socks, this yarn is amazing. It wears like iron, and the color changes are fun, even for a simple stockinette sock. I’m also enjoying using my progress keepers as I go. I really underestimated how much fun having these little charms on a project can be, and might have to get a few more. These are from a UK Etsy shop called RebeccasRoomKnitting. My husband likes the dragon, so I’ve used it to mark where I decreased stitches for the ankle.

I’ve also picked my Oppositional Cardigan back up again. I’ve about 1.5in away from finishing the body. Then it’s the edging, and lastly the sleeves. So I’m getting there!

I laid everything out together:

And realized maybe this is why I feel like I don’t have enough project bags…

*that and because I don’t have proper craft shelves, some bags are doing duty as simple storage as well.
