It’s been a fairly cool and rainy spring, which is OK. Northern Germany tends to stay cool well into spring, and we needed rain after a couple years of drought. But still, some days have felt more like February never quite left, than like it was late April or early May. In fact, Friday started with a cold rain, which turned to slushy sleet, before transitioning briefly to large fluffy snowflakes. Nothing stuck around for more than a few minutes, but I think you get the idea – Friday was chilly and wet. Saturday was nicer, but still didn’t break 60F, and cooled off again at night.
With all that in mind… you’ll understand why it didn’t seem crazy to finally start my Nithya sweater Saturday afternoon.
Late Sunday morning, I went out on the balcony with the cats to knit for a few minutes. But soon the warmth of the sun drove me back inside. But our balcony does face south, and gets full sun this time of year for the middle of the day. The concrete walls can really soak up and radiate back out the heat. But then TheEnabler asked what the weather was supposed to be and when I looked it up, lo and behold, the highs were predicted to be low 80s F / around 25C – which it definitely reached. Yikes! That’s up from a high of 50F/10C on Friday… And today will be even warmer.
Yup, great time to start a sweater. But it might be cold again in another week or two. Who knows?
I’m enjoying the yarn so far. It’s thin, but does bloom a bit when washed. It feels nice and sturdy, despite the thin 2ply construction, and the color is lovely. Also, I have to say – looking at my bright orange and white swirl bag just makes me happy. I can totally see myself buying more project bags from Yarn&Whiskey* in the future. It doesn’t hurt that the sweater project coordinates nicely!
*I believe their next shop update in May 13th. The owner took some time off to deal with a family situation & then to prepare stock for some upcoming events, such as Indie Untangled. It’s the reality of being a small one-person shop.
I’ll probably buy one of her bags some day, partly because yours is pretty, and partly because a yarn store attached to a bar sounds awesome. Ya gotta fund startups you want to happen!
