I’ve been working steadily, if not so quickly, on the socks for my aunt. My chief blockers: work and moving prep. Work continues to be pretty busy, and not with the sorts of meetings I can knit on. It’s lots of trouble shooting and bug-slaying on our current project. This is a natural part of the process, but it keeps me busy. And outside of work, it’s preparing for our move, whether packing, or making arrangements.
Some key milestones we’ve completed:
- Rental contract signed for a new apartment in the US starting August
- Notice sent to leasing company here to end our contract
- Plane tickets booked
- Movers scheduled to get our stuff from North Carolina the week after we get home
- New mattress purchased and delivery scheduled
Don’t underestimate the importance of this last one. Our mattress here was purchased to survive about 2 years. It made it about 2 years and 10 months. About a month ago it suddenly went from “alright” to “horrible”. We needed a new mattress anyway when we got back, but any thoughts of “an air mattress for a bit will be fine” went out the window. New mattress and box spring were secured and my brother-in-law will meet the delivery folks a few days before we fly in.
Anyway, all these things take time. So given all that, I can’t really complain that I am on the second sock:
As I’ve started packing, I’ve also started thinking about my knitting and spinning reserves. Thus, I’ve wound the yarn for the roosimine mitts I’m planning to make into cakes already. I need to check if there’s anything else I need to wind, before I pack up the box with ball winder and swift. After that – I’m committed to my projects through August at least.
Of course, given how busy I am, I’m also pretty sure I’m already over planning what I can actually achieve. But, craft supplies are my security blanket, and I’m not packing them all away. I guess if I get really desperate, I could actually weave in all the ends I’ve been ignoring on a variety of projects.
