First, I’m still here! I know I said I was taking off August, and now we’re in the middle of October… let’s just say that for all I knew the move would be intense and take a lot of time and energy… I still was wayyyy too optimistic about what that would mean for getting back to crafting and the blog. My husband and I also expanded a bit on what we needed to do to really get settled in.
Now for the good news… you’ve missed very very little in the way of my crafting projects because I’ve barely had time for those. I’ve done a little spinning, and worked on a crochet shawl (of which there is a grand total of one instagram image – I promise to tell you more later). And mostly finished the socks I was working on before we left, but I haven’t finished grafting the 2nd toe, a completely trivial job.
We both arrived as planned with our two kitties August 18th. Since then it’s been getting our stuff out of storage three states away, updating insurance, drivers’ licenses, and more, and getting everything put in its place. One key decision we made pretty quickly after arrival was that we needed to find and rent an external office space. Both my husband and I do remote work and don’t have a corporate office to go into. Our new apartment is a bit larger than the one we had in Potsdam, but not by much, and it still only has two bedrooms. The 2nd bedroom – my office – is still quite small and not fit for two adults to work out of, especially when one (me) spends hours on virtual conference calls.
We got pretty lucky, and within only a couple weeks found and secured the lease to an office space in a mixed use building a short walk away. The office is pretty plain and doesn’t even have any windows. But it is pretty large and has a nice big closet, so it’s going to double as my husbands’ work space and my craft space for sewing and felting. So all my sewing and felt supplies have moved over there. I promise pics and a tour of it at a later date.
Last night I finally had time to bring a bit of order to the yarn and spinning supplies which will largely be staying in the apartment. I’m still missing half of what I shipped back from Germany. I think it’s still in a customs backlog (Hurricane Ida’s timing in August followed by the Covid Delta spikes have done us no favors). So there’s more to come but this is what’s here now:
It’ll probably be a couple more weeks until the next post, as my husband and I are off to visit my Aunt in Romania, almost certainly for the last time. I have a few projects pulled together for the trip, including the extra yarn to try to repair her first pair of socks. My options were a bit limited by the fact that most of my needles, my yarn ball winder, and yarn swift are all in that box sitting in customs.
Anyway…. I thought I should check in to let people know that I’m still alive, made it to the US, and still plan to get back to blogging. It’s just taking longer than I would have wished.
